Network Security

In today's world, network security has become one of the most crucial aspects of our lives. With the advent of the internet and the digital age, we are more connected than ever before. While this has undoubtedly made our lives more convenient, it has also opened us up to a host of security risks. In this blog post, we will take a closer look at network security, its importance, and some of the key principles of securing a network.

What is Network Security?

Network security refers to the process of securing computer networks from unauthorized access or attacks. It involves the use of various technologies, policies, and practices to protect the network and its data from theft, damage, or unauthorized access. Network security is essential in today's world, where organizations rely heavily on computer networks to store, process, and transmit sensitive data.

Why is Network Security Important?

The importance of network security cannot be overstated. In today's interconnected world, cyber threats are on the rise, and organizations of all sizes are vulnerable to attacks. A successful cyber attack can have devastating consequences, including data theft, financial losses, and damage to the organization's reputation. By implementing effective network security measures, organizations can minimize the risk of cyber attacks and protect their sensitive data.

Key Principles of Network Security

Risk Assessment: Before implementing any security measures, it is essential to conduct a risk assessment to identify potential vulnerabilities and threats. This process involves analyzing the network's architecture, identifying potential threats, and evaluating the likelihood and impact of each threat.

Access Control: Access control is a critical aspect of network security. It involves limiting access to the network and its data to authorized users only. Access control can be achieved through various methods, including passwords, biometric authentication, and two-factor authentication.

Data Encryption: Data encryption is the process of converting data into an unreadable format, which can only be decrypted with a specific key. Encryption is essential for protecting sensitive data, such as financial information, personal data, and intellectual property.

Network Monitoring: Network monitoring involves monitoring the network for suspicious activity and potential security breaches. This process can be automated using various software tools and can help detect and respond to security incidents quickly.

Security Awareness Training: Finally, security awareness training is essential for promoting a culture of security within an organization. This involves training employees on best practices for network security, such as using strong passwords, avoiding suspicious links, and reporting potential security incidents.

Conclusion

Network security is a critical aspect of our lives, and its importance is only going to grow as we become more reliant on technology. By implementing effective network security measures, organizations can protect their sensitive data from cyber threats and minimize the risk of security breaches. While there is no one-size-fits-all approach to network security, implementing the key principles outlined above can go a long way in securing a network and keeping data safe.

Google, Microsoft aim to make their cloud environments more secure as cyberattacks increase

 KEY POINTS

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud have all made acquisitions in the cybersecurity space over the past year.
  • By 2025, Gartner predicts more than 95% of new digital workloads will be deployed on cloud-native platforms, up from just 30% in 2021.
  • The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) earlier this month launched a countdown to April 14, 2030, the date by which CSA estimates a quantum computer will be able to break present-day cybersecurity infrastructure.

When cybersecurity company Mandiant announced in early March that it had entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Google in a transaction valued at about $5.4 billion, it marked the latest sign that security expertise and capabilities have become critical for effective cloud service operations.

All three of the biggest public cloud providers — Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud — have made acquisitions in the cybersecurity space over the past year — and it’s quite possible others will follow as these companies look to shore up their data protection efforts.

Mandiant, which will become part of Google Cloud at the close of the acquisition, provides threat intelligence services and its more than 600 consultants respond to thousands of security breaches each year. It leverages research from more than 300 intelligence analysts to help organizations defend against threats.

Google Cloud has been building cloud-native security into the foundation of its technology as it tries to block threats such as malware, phishing attempts and other cybersecurity attacks. The company says the acquisition of Mandiant underscores its commitment to advancing its security offerings to better protect and advise customers for both on-premises and cloud environments.

Microsoft made two key acquisitions of its own in 2021 to bolster the security of its Azure cloud service. First, it acquired CloudKnox Security, a provider of cloud infrastructure entitlement management (CIEM) technology, as part of an effort to offer unified privileged access and cloud entitlement management to customers across their multi-cloud and hybrid cloud environments.

Another key security acquisition for Microsoft was RiskIQ, a provider of threat intelligence and attack surface management. The company’s offerings are designed to help organizations assess the security of their entire attack surface, including cloud services from Microsoft, AWS and other clouds, as well as on-premises and supply chain systems. They can identify and remediate vulnerable IT components before attackers can capitalize on them.

AWS, for its part, acquired Wickr, a company that offers an encrypted messaging platform used by companies and government agencies. The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, gives AWS advanced security features for messaging, voice and video calling, file sharing, and collaboration.

Leveraging the cloud

All of these transactions make sense, given the ongoing growth of the cloud and the increase in cyber threats. Research firm Gartner has said the pandemic and the surge in digital services are making cloud services the “centerpiece of new digital experiences.”

Public cloud spending worldwide increased by 23% in 2021, driven by increased digital services to replace person-to-person services and the migration of existing IT assets to the cloud to enable better availability, says Peter Firstbrook, research vice president at Gartner.

Examples of how companies are leveraging the cloud include increasing robotic processing automation (RPA) for service and support, adding new cloud storefronts, migrating existing services to the cloud to support newly remote workers, and using collaboration tools and desktop as a service.

“Most of these migrations were already happening, but the pandemic accelerated the migration to cloud in many organizations,” Firstbrook says.

The firm predicts that global cloud revenue will total $474 billion this year, up from $408 billion in 2021. Gartner analysts estimate that cloud revenue will surpass non-cloud revenue for relevant enterprise IT markets over the next few years. By 2025, the firm predicts more than 95% of new digital workloads will be deployed on cloud-native platforms, up from just 30% in 2021.

In a newly released report identifying the top security and risk management trends for 2022, the firm notes that organizations worldwide are facing sophisticated ransomware, attacks on digital supply chains and deeply embedded vulnerabilities.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has not illustrated significant new cybersecurity attacker tradecraft, Firstbrook says. “Denial-of-service attacks and wiper malware were observed, but these were easily contained and none caused the collateral damage that NotPetya did,” he says. “There may be more that we don’t know yet.”

The U.S. government has issued a warning that Russia might increase attacks on U.S. companies, Firstbrook says, “however so far I have not seen evidence of significant new attacks or attack tradecraft. IT organizations that follow best practices guidance are well positioned to mitigate attacks regardless of the source.”

Longer term, a prolonged Russian recession might drive more people into cybercrime, “which could drive an increase in international ransomware attacks,” Firsbrook says. “Concurrently, we anticipate that Russia will stop cooperating with the international community to arrest Russian nationals accused of international cybercrime.”

In the meantime, the increase in hybrid work because of the pandemic accelerated the move to the cloud, challenging cybersecurity executives to secure an increasingly distributed enterprise while at the same time dealing with a shortage of skilled security staff.

Enterprise attack surfaces are expanding, the report says, and risks associated with the use of cloud applications, complex digital supply chains and other aspects of technology have brought organizations’ exposed surfaces outside of a set of controllable assets. As a result, they need to look beyond traditional approaches to security monitoring, detection and response to manage a wider set of security exposures.

In a clear indication that cybersecurity threats aren’t going away anytime soon, the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) earlier this month launched a countdown to April 14, 2030, the date by which CSA estimates a quantum computer will be able to break present-day cybersecurity infrastructure.

The alliance, an organization that defines standards, certifications and best practices for cloud computing security, says its website will feature a Year to Quantum (Y2Q) countdown clock to serve as a reminder of the need to find and implement new security solutions.

New CET Technology added in Intel CPU's to Protect From Malware Attack.

A Big giant company Intel features deals with 'control flow' in which tasks are executed in the CPU, it is used to prevent malware modifying the control flow of other apps.

Intel has been working on CET, Which stands for Control-flow Enforcement Technology, since 2016 when when it was first published the first version of the CET Specification. As Its name Suggest CET deals with control flow a technical term used to describe in order in which operation are executed inside the CPU.

The Malware runs on device can use later in other apps to hijack their control flow and insert its malicious code to run in the context of another app. On Intel's future Tiger lake mobile CPU's CET will protect the control flow via two new security new mechanism namely shadow stack and indirect branch tracking. This new security feature also offers software developers two key capabilities to help defend against control flow hijacking malware : Indirect Branch Tracking (IBT) and Shadow Stack (SS).

As an new feature in Windows 10, Microsoft has worked with Intel to offer hardware-enforced stack protection built into windows 10 to enforce code integrity as well as terminate any malicious code. Intel Points to TrendMicro's Zero Day Vulnerability report indicate that 63.2% of the 1,097 Vulnerabilities from 2019 to today were memory safety related.

Mainly These type of Malware basically target Operating System, Browser, readers and many other application. It takes deep hardware integration at the foundation to deliver effective security features with minimal performance impact, Intel Said.

iPhone XR 2 will pack much bigger battery than iPhone XR, leak suggests

The iPhone XR comes with a 2,942mAh battery which means the iPhone XR successor aka the iPhone XR 2 will sport a big 3,110mAh battery.

HIGHLIGHTS

    iPhone XR 2
  • This year Apple is going to launch the successor to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.
  • The upcoming iPhones are expected to be iPhone XI, iPhone XI Max and iPhone XR 2.
  • New leak suggests that the iPhone XR 2 will come bundled with a bigger battery when compared to predecessor.
Apple is expected to launch three iPhones this year similar to the last two years. This year -- at least this is what the rumours and leaks suggest - Apple is going to launch the successor to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. The upcoming iPhones are expected to be iPhone XI, iPhone XI Max and iPhone XR 2. We have come across several leaks and rumours about all the three iPhones in the past, now a new leak has revealed some new details about the iPhone XR successor aka iPhone XR 2. The leak suggests that the iPhone XR 2 will come bundled with a bigger battery when compared to predecessor.
According to a report coming from http://en.thelec.kr/ the iPhone XR 2 will sport a much bigger battery when compared to the iPhone XR that launched last year. The report suggests that the iPhone XR 2 will come with a 5 per cent bigger battery than the iPhone XR. The iPhone XR comes with a 2,942mAh battery which means the iPhone XR successor aka the iPhone XR 2 will sport a big 3,110mAh battery. Having said that, the consumers can expect the iPhone XR 2 to offer a longer lasting battery life compared to the iPhone XR.
The report further notes that Chinese Amperex Technology Limited (ATL) has "kicked off mass production of batteries for the successor to Apple's iPhone XR". As of now there are no words from Apple's side as far as the upcoming iPhones 2019 are concerned. Rumours suggest that like every year Apple will host its Apple iPhone every around September end or October beginning.
Compared to the iPhone XR the successor device aka iPhone XR 2 is expected to be much advanced in terms of both design as well as specifications. The iPhone XR 2 is expected to come with two cameras on the back panel that one sensor less than the upcoming iPhone XI series of phones. Rumours suggest that similar to the high-end iPhones this year the iPhone XR 2 is also expected to be powered by second-gen 7nm Apple A13 chipset. The iPhone XR 2 is expected to come in several funky colours like yellow, red, blue, white, black, among others.

Vivo Z1 Pro India launch soon

Vivo Z1 Pro India launch soon, plans to take on Samsung Galaxy M40

In India, the Vivo Z series phone is expected to be priced around Rs 20,000. With the Vivo Z1 Pro the company will take on the likes of phones like Samsung Galaxy M40, among others.

HIGHLIGHTS

    Vivo Z1 Pro
  • The upcoming Z series Vivo phone will be called Vivo Z1 Pro.
  • Vivo Z1 Pro could be rebranded Vivo Z5x for India.
  • Vivo has confirmed that Z1 Pro will come with in-display camera on the front.

We at India Today Tech have exclusively reported about the upcoming Z series phone from Vivo earlier this week and also last week. We have confirmed the processor powering the Vivo phone and also revealed the phone's first look. Until now Vivo was teasing the new Z series phone but now the company has confirmed the name of the device and also revealed some key spec of the phone. The upcoming Z series Vivo phone will be called Vivo Z1 Pro.
Earlier some media reports suggested that the upcoming Z series phone is the Vivo Z5x that launched in China recently. But looks like that's the case as the upcoming Z series Vivo phone is Vivo Z1 Pro and not Z5x. However, there are high chances that the Vivo Z1 Pro will be rebranded Vivo Z5x for India.
Vivo is teasing the Vivo Z1 Pro for quite some days now. Via the innumerable teasers, Vivo has confirmed that Z1 Pro will come with in-display camera on the front, in other words, the phone will include punch-hole selfie camera. This, in turn, will offer much bigger screen-to-body ratio to the consumers. This is the first Vivo phone to come with a punch-hole display. Notably, the Vivo Z5x in China includes the same punch hole camera design.
The teasers have also revealed that the Vivo Z1 Pro will come with a big battery that will last for one full day on a single charge. In an exclusive report, we at India Today Tech confirmed that the Vivo Z series phone will be powered by Snapdragon 700 processor, most likely Snapdragon 712 processor. Having said that, this Vivo phone will be the first to come with Snapdragon 712 processor in India.
Earlier this week we released two live photos of the Vivo Z1 Pro and the phone looks stunning from the back side in them. The pictures reveal that the Vivo Z1 Pro will come with three cameras on the back panel and will sport glossy and gradient finish design. Right next to the camera module we can see the circular fingerprint sensor that will enable users to unlock the phone at finger touch.
As far as the pricing is concerned, in India, the Vivo Z series phone is expected to be priced around Rs 20,000. With the Vivo Z1 Pro the company will take on the likes of phones like Samsung Galaxy M40, among others. Vivo is yet to reveal the launch date of the Z1 Pro. However, reports suggest that the phone will go official in Q3 of 2019.

Nubia Red Magic 3

Nubia Red Magic 3 with 90Hz OLED display could be cheaper than OnePlus 7, launching on June 17

The Red Magic 3 is the second gaming smartphone from Nubia in India. Launched globally a few months ago, the Red Magic 3 boasts of all high-end specifications and is expected to be priced on par with the OnePlus 7.

HIGHLIGHTS

    Nubia Red Magic 3
  • The Red Magic 3 sports a 90Hz OLED display with Full HD+ resolution.
  • Equipped with a Snapdragon 855 chipset and fan-based cooling system, the Red Magic 3 falls into the flagship grade smartphone club.
  • The Re d Magic 3 currently tops the AnTuTu benchmark list beating all other Android phones.

Gaming smartphones have been picking up pace in the Indian market lately and companies are cashing in on the opportunity. After the BlackShark 2, Nubia is set to bring the Red Magic 3 to the Indian shores soon. The company has even disclosed its launch date - it's coming on June 17. This makes it the fourth flagship-grade smartphone equipped with the Snapdragon 855 to launch this summer, after the OnePlus 7 series, Oppo Reno and BlackShark 2.
The Red Magic 3 has been in news for a while now. Last week, AnTuTu claimed that the Red Magic 3 led its benchmark tests with the highest scores, beating all other flagship smartphones by some margin. And that only justifies the credentials of this gaming smartphone. Because when you look at the spec sheet of the Red Magic 3, it comes across as nothing less than beastly.
All gaming and flagship phones come with the Snapdragon 855 chipset but Nubia uses custom cooling solutions to sustain higher peak performance than its rivals. The Red Magic 3 is probably the first smartphone to use a combination of liquid cooling technology as well as a fan-based cooling system. Therefore, like a gaming laptop, you have actual heat vents. The phone also sports an RGB LED light at the back like its predecessor.
That's not the only gaming device highlight the Red Magic 3 boasts. Like the OnePlus 7 Pro, it sports a 90Hz OLED display with Full HD+ resolution. The phone uses a fairly stock version of Android 9 Pie with certain under-the-hood optimisations to ensure fast gaming performance. Plus, a massive 5000mAh battery should ensure longer backups during gaming sessions. If you like photography, Nubia has stuffed in a 48-megapixel Sony camera at the rear and a 16-megapixel camera at the front.
There's no hint of the price yet but a recent report by 91 Mobiles suggests that Nubia could launch the 8GB RAM variant around Rs 36,999. This could make the Red Magic 3 great value over the OnePlus 7 if specifications matter more than anything else. It is even said that Nubia wants to go aggressive with its pricing which means we could see a possible price of around Rs 30,000 in India.

Asus ROG Phone 2

Asus ROG Phone 2 will come with 120Hz display, to launch later this year

The successor to last year's ROG Phone is confirmed to come with a 120Hz refresh rate enabled display. Only the Razer Phones have 120Hz screens so far.

Asus ROG Phone

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Asus ROG Phone 2 will come with a 120Hz display.
  • Only the Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2 have featured 120Hz screens on smartphones so far.
  • The ROG Phone 2 is expected to be unveiled later this year.

Although the credit of 'inventing' the gaming smartphone goes to Razer, it was Asus who popularised the idea of a gaming smartphone all across the world with its ROG Phone. Although it was (and still is) expensive compared to the ones that came later, the ROG Phone set a benchmark for what gaming phones can do if the sky is the limit. For a long time, it has been imagined what its successor would bring to the table and Asus has just given us a hint about the ROG Phone 2.
In a recent post on Weibo, Asus declared it will bring a higher refresh rate screen with the ROG Phone 2. Tencent will bring a faster 120Hz refresh rate support for its fighting game "Under One Man" and Asus confirms that its next phone will support such a higher refresh rate. The existing ROG Phone only comes with a 90Hz OLED screen.
A smartphone display with a higher refresh rate is always a visual treat as has been proven with the recently launched OnePlus 7 Pro that introduced a 90Hz screen to the masses. However, this isn't the first time we will be seeing a 120Hz screen on a smartphone. Previously, the Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2 debuted screens with the 120Hz refresh rate.
While many phones have been coming with screens that support higher refresh rates, you have to keep in mind that games also need to support those high refresh rates to deliver the best experience. Currently, Asphalt 9: Legends supports natively 90Hz refresh rate.
With the ROG Phone 2 confirmed to feature a display with 120Hz refresh rate, it is only a matter of few simple guesses to determine the rest of the specifications. As with all 2019 gaming phones, the ROG Phone 2 will surely rely on the Snapdragon 855 chipset and Asus could be offering it in a higher state of tune with bumped up clock speeds. You can also expect up to 12GB RAM as well as UFS 3.0 storage for faster read/write speeds.
With this year's ZenFone 6 featuring a 5000mAh battery, Asus could bring the same to the ROG Phone 2 as well. Other expected features include a 48-megapixel Sony camera for the rear as well as Quad HD+ display. and of course, being a ROG-branded device means it will feature a wild gaming laptop-like design with RGB LED lighting.

RCom says offers made for some assets under debt reduction plan

Anil Ambani, Chairman of India’s Reliance Communication, addresses a news conference at the company’s headquarters in Mumbai, India, December 26, 2017. REUTERS/Danish Siddiqui
The plan, which sent the company’s shares soaring, expands on one it announced in late October. Reliance Communications (RCom) said on Tuesday it would involve no write-offs to lenders or bondholders, nor conversion of debt to equity.
The firm will exit the “strategic debt restructuring” process that allows lenders to conduct takeovers by swapping loans for equity, Anil Ambani, the businessman backing the company, told a news conference on Tuesday.
Foreign lenders have supported the plan, and RCom has received non-binding offers for some of assets, through whose sales it hoped to raise about 250 billion rupees by March, he added.
The announcement sent the company’s shares up to almost 40 percent, and marks its latest attempt to remove a big cloud hanging over what was once the flagship of Ambani’s business empire but has been hit with concerns about its ability to repay its debt after failing to pay interest on some of it.
Rising competition in India’s telecom sector, including the entry of start-up Jio - backed by Anil Ambani’s brother Mukesh - has trimmed margins in India’s telecom sector to wafer-thin levels.
Competing in it would require “a pipeline into the Reserve Bank of India’s printing press,” Anil Ambani said at a news briefing in Mumbai.
“It is a guzzler of currency... It has engulfed many, many people and many many companies.”
RCom had net debt of 450 billion rupees at the end of October, according to a slide presented on Tuesday, putting it among India’s most indebted companies.

As part of Tuesday’s plan, RCom will shift 100 billion rupees of its debt into a special purpose vehicle that will develop the company’s real estate assets in the suburbs of Mumbai.
RCom will also receive investments from private equity companies, helping further reduce debt, Ambani added, without providing details.
The asset sales would help RCom reduce its debt to below 60 billion rupees, he said, estimating the remaining enterprise-focused business’ value at 150 billion rupees.
RCom has previously tried and failed to cut its debt, including through merging with fellow telecoms operator Aircel and by selling a stake in the firm to Canada’s Brookfield.
Its shares slid to record lows after it presented its last plan in October.
Lenders and business partners have taken it to court after it missed debt payments.
China Development Bank last month initiated insolvency proceedings, saying a large amount of principal and interest from RCom was overdue. The lender was not immediately available for comment outside of business hours.
Ambani did not say whether CDB had signed off on the new plan, but noted he had landed at 4 a.m. from Beijing without explaining the reason for his visit to China.

Technical Guruji v/s Technical Sagar - A tech blogging rivalry

Technical Guruji v/s Technical Sagar rivalry brings out the competitive and rather dark side of tech blogging in India.

The world has seen a number of rivalries across industries, but an out and out fight between two tech bloggers was not something we saw coming.
An ongoing rivalry between prominent Hindi tech bloggers Technical Guruji and Technical Sagar, took an ugly turn when the latter created a 15 minute long video titled – EK GHATIYA INSAAN – TECHNICAL G***JI EXPOSED | FULL STORY #SHAME – the title roughly sums up to ‘exposing technical G***ji, a cheap person’. Yes, you read that right.
In the video, Sagar goes on to speak about how Technical Guruji entered the industry and later didn’t offer any credits to his mentor or inspiration, his professor – Verma Ji, who also used to be a tech blogger. The video goes on to call Technical Guruji “Ehsaan Faramosh” who is born with a silver spoon and never started anything by himself.
Sagar has also called out Guruji on his giveaways, with claims that the latter has no technical knowledge whatsoever
Since, the release of Technical Sagar’s videos a number of Tech bloggers have released subsequent videos, calling out on the uncalled rivalry and its bad impact on the industry.
Technical Guruji v/s Technical Sagar rivalry brings out the dark side of blogging, which consists of stiff competition, name calling, and cruel survival instincts that those who want to make it as bloggers need to have.
The rivalry however, is a lot more that it appears on face. Going back to earlier this year, the tech bloggers’ battle begun when both the involved parties said that they shall be shutting their YouTubechannels once they hit a certain number of subscribers – a stunt pulled off successfully by PewDiePie – as a result of YouTube strikes, that is YouTube’s copyright policy. Post three strikes, YouTube removes all the content and accounts of the responsible blogger.
According to a video by Techvilla, post the stunt, Sagar received an overwhelming response from the community, while Guruju was left to fend for himself.
This lead to Technical Guruji calling out on Sagar’s decision as a publicity stunt in some unsavoury language. This soon grew into a full blown war, with both the bloggers targeting each other in their videos.
How and when the Technical Guruji v/s Technical Sagar saga ends, we have no idea! It certainly brings to light the hostility of the industry we all wish to be a part of someday! Still dreaming of becoming a blogger?

Ways to Find Trending Topics and Key Words

Where to find trending topics and keywords for your blog

While a decade ago it would have been difficult to find such trends in real time, internet has now made it very easy to locate the live trends and come up with smart content to cash in on the same. So, let us have a look at a few tools and methods for locating the accurate trends for you.

1. Twitter

It hardly needs introduction! While the idea has existed for a long time, Twitter brought it to public attention by directly listing current trends on their homepage and profile pages. It is still the best way to find out the present political and cultural trends as well as the mood of a nation. You can check global trends or look for country specific trends as per your needs as you search the hashtags.
If you have the budget, you can also consider using “promoted trends” in Twitter. These hashtags will show up at the top of the list in the homepage of your target region. Include your brand name in the hashtag for the right impact.

2. Google Trends

Google has many services to provide analytics. Google Trends is the best option out of them to find trending topics. You can search any topic here and check out the volume it is receiving. You can also make country-specific as well as sector-specific searches to make the results more targeted.
You can explore in depth by clicking on the country name and then the state names to get completely localized details which will help you to find extremely targeted keywords for your focus market.

3. Social Mention

It is a smart tool that analyses content in a huge number of websites. It does not only limit itself to major networks like Twitter and Facebook but also goes through more than a 100 sites including the likes of Digg, YouTube, FriendFeed and basically anything that hosts user generated content to find out trending topics.
For any query, Social Mention also gives you a list of influencers, i.e. people who regularly post on one of the social networks on that topic and are popular with high number of followers and engagements. You can find potential collaborators and endorsers from this list.

4. Keyhole

Keyhole is an interesting tool that allows you to track hashtags across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. It just works like Google alerts, but for social media. So, you can set an alert for a certain topic and observe it on real time.
Use it as a defence mechanism for your brand, if necessary – If you have the resources, put one dedicated person to monitor all mentions of your brand in real time using this app and immediately respond to any issues or criticism.

5. Agorapulse

Agorapulse is mainly a tool for creating contests and other marketing campaigns on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. But it also lets you create customized queries for specific keywords on Twitter and identify the buzz around the same.
Its analytics clearly tells you which your best performing Tweets and FB posts are. Go through the posts in the recent weeks to get an idea about more popular topics and fine-tune your keyword list.

6. Buzzfeed

Buzzfeed grew simply by posting content on trending topics. So, you can rest assured that the people at Buzzfeed know how to find the right trends. The good thing is that they also display Buzzfeed trends for everyone to see on the right hand side of the homepage and so you can easily find out how to your trends through this site.
Buzzfeed’s trending topics are mostly in the shape of listicles. What you can draw from here is not only keyword ideas and topics but the most effective way of framing the titles. This site works simply because it can make people click on the links. You learn it too.

7. Reddit

Reddit is a hugely popular site where everyday people are having heated debates on every topic under the sun. The topics can be voted up or down on the site and so the ones with most “upvotes” only are seen on the homepage. So, in a way, one look at the Reddit homepage can give you a very good idea about what is trending right now.
The best way to exploit Reddit is to discover subreddits i.e. instead of just exploring the homepage, find subpages that are dedicated to specific topics and offer more specific insights. You can directly search for subreddits based on your topic of interest here.

8. Topsy

Topsy is another tool for smart marketers. It allows you to search for topics in a targeted manner. For instance you can even search for trends on a certain date, time or place. You can set alerts, monitor and analyse all the trends to figure out existing social sentiment towards them.
For instance, suppose you have a plan for a campaign focused on the next Christmas. So, you can just go to Topsy and look for the trends from the last few years’ Christmas to find out useful keywords. Such date specific search would have been a nightmare with most other tools.

Conclusion

All these tools discussed above have their own USPs. In order to make the most of them, you should stick to a few that give regular results relevant to you.
